Mobile SEO or Mobile Search Engine Optimization is a term which came into existence when Mobile Web was launched in 1996.The users soon began to use their phones to launch searches. When companies realized the potential of this market, they began devising strategies to attract the attention of the Mobile Web Users also. Thus, they began launching websites which were specially designed for the mobile phones.
It has been found that when a mobile user who reaches the website of a retailer through a mobile search, finds the website mobile-friendly, the chances of his completing a business transaction receive a significant boost.
Hence, the companies started creating and maintaining separate websites which were specially designed for the mobile users. Things such as easy accessibility of the important tabs were paid special attention. Visual distractions were also kept to a bare minimum. Along with these separate websites came the necessity of improving their rankings and hence visibility in the relevant searches made in the Search Engines. In this way the concept of Mobile SEO came into existence. Soon Google also laid down its terms of Mobile SEO.
It was found that most of the Mobile Web users got directed to the websites of companies through links in Social Networking Sites. Thus, it became imperative for the Mobile SEO expert to improve the visibility of the website in the Social Networking Sites.
Some experts in the field, however, do not approve the undue attention given to Mobile SEO. They feel that there is neither a need to maintain a separate Mobile friendly website nor to allot resources for Mobile SEO. This view gained prominence with the launch of smart phones and android phones as they could display all the contents of the web page including its video content. Thus, the usual steps of SEO taken for the website would improve the rankings on the Mobile Web Search too.
