Web Applications: The Next Generation

The digital era has brought with itself, many revolutions in the field of internet and technologies. Take for example a Web Application , an application that is accessed over a network such as the Internet or an Intranet. The term may also mean a computer software application that is hosted in a browser-controlled environment. Common web applications include online retail sales, wikis, webmail, online auctions and many other functions.

Many people however think of the web applications as bookmarked websites, which is correct to some extent. The evolution of internet over the years has led to dramatic changes in the websites. The websites are no longer static pages where a reader can come and read the stuff. They are now dynamic, hosted externally, store and manage relevant information backed by servers, and scripted using a variety of languages that communicate between cloud server and the page that you are looking at.

  • Web Applications therefore are more than just websites. They store and manage information, and make connections between users. Applications are not only programs that must be downloaded and installed but can be built on the web. The applications have derived this name because they do something for the user . Some of the most common web applications that you would be using in your everyday life include: Google docs for word processing and spreadsheets, Grooveshark or Pandora as advanced media players, and mySQL databases etc. All these facilitate the work and give you the easiest ways to complete a task.
  • Web Applications have also found important uses in the corporate world. Modern companies use web applications to connect with each other through intranet or manage projects. They are helpful in interacting with the clients for ascertaining that the businesses as well as the services remain available to them. Web Applications aid an organization to create a user-friendly interface and provide a comprehensive set of appropriate tools for the customers to put in the precise data with little amount of work and marginally improve the operating efficiency. They also provide a smarter mode of doing business by reducing the operating time as well as the costs.

The next generation of Web Applications promise much more in the times to come. They are likely to become more advanced and provide better, more creative and quicker results to the user.
