Fashioning Your Design Portfolio Kick Away These Mistakes!

It is right stated by Jacob Cass, a graphic and interactive designer of Just Creative that A portfolio is the backbone of a creative as it shows what you're capable of.For any website or any graphic designer, creating an amazing and a decent portfolio is one of the most powerful marketing tools. A portfolio, alike any other field helps you talk about your skillset and when it is a design portfolio then there is a handsome scope to reach out to the countless potential clients who are looking for the right one like you all over the world.
It's been years that I am working as an editor and have reviewed a ton of online portfolios walking through the mistakes that many designers do with their portfolios. Here, in this article, I have shared some of those no-no's that one must consider not to inculcate while fashioning the design portfolio. Here we go!

Showing Off Too Much Work Or No Work

The sense of not showing off the load of work you are handling and not even depicting that there is no work is what the foremost mistakes to kick away on the face of it. For best and better results, it is good to inculcate 15 projects. Ram Castillo who is a world leading expert for developing designers to get employed says, It's far stronger to have five quality projects showing five design pieces within it, than 20 average projects with 10+ design pieces within them.

Lacking Personal Touch

There is nothing wrong when you search for successful portfolios and gather ideas and inspiration from them, but to copy the ones is where you are mistaking a lot. Without modifying or giving the layout a personal touch, it is better not to incorporate the same. There is no doubt that the internet has a lot to offer when it comes to cool formats and samples, but let just not sacrifice on the individuality point and don't walk opposite to showcasing what you need to.

No Captions Since Visuals Are Reigning

There is no denying that a picture is worth a thousand words, but when it is coupled with a few words, it's worth even more. More specifically when the same highlights and talks about high-profile clients with whom you have earlier worked with. Client, agency, challenge, role, and result are the five captions that must be included in ones portfolio according to Ram Castillo. In addition to this, it is significant to not to forget to talk about your role.

Inconsistency Will Work

You may be thinking that every project that you work on should have different font as well as layout. But, this should be in the case of your portfolio. Having so much of fonts and background colors is not only dejecting and misleading visually but also gives an imprint that the designer is not trustworthy enough in bringing out an integrated project. Therefore, it is better that you perfectly mix together the typefaces, illustrations, logo design and product design at a place. Let you work be depicted in an organized manner!

Dearth Of Confidence

If your sits is full of passive language and are missing visible calls-to-action, it's the time you need to get alarmed! Co-Founder and Creative Director of online portfolio platform Format -Lukas Dryja says, As with any website, your desired result should be spelt out for visitors clearly and confidently. It might help to think of your site as a brick-and-mortar location. If you saw your portfolio as a storefront, would you stop in and take a look around? It should be easy to see what you're selling. With the aid of your design and copy choices, showcase the end goal of your clearly. Be open and self-assured about what you can do for the people.

These were some of the recurring mistakes that are present in most of the Web Design Portfolios. And, these blunders literally drive me nuts! So, if you want to grab many eyeballs and those too in a positive manner that do not dare do these listed things whilst fashioning your design portfolio. All The Best!
